Accelerated Reader

At HBJS we use the Accelerated Reader scheme to track pupils’ progress in reading throughout their time here. It has a huge advantage over other reading schemes in that there are thousands of books to choose from, so the pupils have access to a very wide range of books.

Please see the ‘English’ section on the school website for further information about
Accelerated Reader.

We are passionate about promoting reading for pleasure at HBJS, so whilst we are diligent about encouraging and tracking progress through the Accelerated Reader scheme, we also recognise that books cannot be measured in terms of their appeal or complexity of ideas expressed. With that in mind, pupils are encouraged to read widely and can borrow a second library book that does not need to be in their reading range, and they will not take a quiz on it.

School Council Code

School council have discussed and voted on a set of promises that we believe every school councillor must follow. We have called this our School Council Code.

School Council have agreed that we will all follow these rules…

•Treat everyone equally.
•Listen to the ideas of others.
•Be responsible.
