Art

At Herne Bay Junior School, Art is like a golden thread that weaves through the curriculum. It can be seen as a vital part of so many of our activities, enriching and energising a learning journey. Discovering cultures, ancient and historical, exploring geographical aspects of the world, interpreting literature and media; children use drawing, painting and sculpture with a range of materials to develop learning and share their ideas, experiences and imagination. Discovering art as a means to express is also to know and understand art through time and humanity, from cave paintings to the work of great artists.

At Herne Bay Junior School, we encourage the child to find enjoyment, fulfilment, and achievement through art, craft and design and see themselves as artists, designers and craft workers. We are lucky enough to collaborate with CACOT schools around the area to create lifelong experiences through the arts. Art ambassadors are given the opportunity to work alongside local artists through the Beach Creative and we are really proud of the exhibitions they have been part of as a result. The entire school partakes in Arty Days too, whereby the children explore important and relevant artists relating to a specific theme. These include: Black History Month, Women's History Month and Mental Health Week. This allows the children to use art as a form to access significant events in history and gain a better understanding of these.
