Design and Technology

In a world driven by innovation and creativity, our Design and Technology curriculum strives to empower every student at Herne Bay Junior School to become the problem solvers and creators of tomorrow. We believe that every student, regardless of their background or ability, should have the opportunity to engage with and excel in this dynamic field.

Our curriculum is knowledge-rich, providing students with a solid foundation in principles, materials and technologies. Through hands-on projects and collaborative learning experiences, students not only acquire essential skills but also develop critical thinking and creativity. We emphasise the importance of inclusion, ensuring that all students feel valued and supported in their learning journey.

We embrace Curriculum Maestro to guide our lessons and provide engaging resources for each of our projects. Overviews, programmes of study, key skills and core knowledge are all highlighted when planning units of learning. Each project begins with a memorable experience and builds to an innovative challenge. This approach highlights the key skills the children are working towards and provides a clear goal to be achieved.

Regular feedback and reflection opportunities allow students to recognise their success and identify areas for improvement. This approach encourages students to embrace challenges and learn from their experiences. By revisiting key skills throughout their time here, students can reinforce learning and build confidence.

Ultimately, our design and technology curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, ignite passion, and equip students with the skills they need to thrive in an ever-evolving world. Together, we are nurturing the next generation of innovators, thinkers, and creators who will shape the future.
