PTA

What is a PTA?

A Parent Teacher Association is a body made up of both parents and teachers alike who have a responsibility to the teaching and welfare of the children under their care – be they the parent or the teacher responsible for their welfare during school hours. The general goal of a PTA is to bring about an understanding between parents and the school at which their child – or children – are being taught. PTA’s are used as a means of bringing about dialogue between both parents and teachers in an informal atmosphere with the aim of uniting both and helping each understand what the requirements are for the children in their care.

What does the PTA do?

The PTA meet once every term to discuss how we can support our schools in different ways such as with fundraising and donations. We organise events for our school community such as the in-school shops for Christmas, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Quiz nights and Disco’s throughout the year.

How do we decide what we donate?

The Senior Leadership Team from both HBIS and HBJS submit written requests to the PTA for items or monetary contributions for things to improve the welfare, wellbeing and education of the children. The PTA chairperson takes these requests to the meetings and it is the role of the committee to vote on the outcome of the requests.

Heather Wilders – Chair

Vanessa Cross – Co-Chair Infants

Abi Ellis – Co Chair Juniors
