Science

Science is the key to unlocking the mysteries of the world we live in. It has shaped our lives today and will continue to shape our lives in the future. Science isn’t simply about learning facts, but about fostering creativity, critical thinking, curiosity and providing problem-solving skills which last a lifetime.

At Herne bay Junior School, we aim to take all of our pupils on a journey, where we empower the next generation to become the innovators and problem-solvers of tomorrow. We use Curriculum Maestro to help bring this to life, ensuring the teaching of Science meets the objectives of the National Curriculum. Pupils are provided with the foundations to understand the wider world they live in through the scientific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Our Science curriculum builds upon knowledge and scientific concepts to encourage our pupils to make informed decisions. We want our pupils to be curious about the ‘Why has this happened?’ and use their foundational knowledge combined with a natural curiosity to form their own conclusions.

Each Science lesson begins with the opportunity to revisit a previously taught concept which allows pupils to continually build upon learning from their time at Herne Bay Junior School. As pupils progress through the key stage, they begin to make greater connections with other STEM subjects and use their learning to present findings in different ways. We aim to make Science engaging and real for our pupils; our wonderful outdoor forest area really brings our Science units to life. By the end of Key Stage 2, we hope to have inspired the scientist of our future.
