The overarching aim of the Design and Technology curriculum is to develop a creative, technical and practical expertise, whilst establishing skills to design, make and evaluate products and prototypes made from materials and food.
At Herne Bay Junior School, we aim to provide an inspiring and practical approach to DT whereby the children are able to use creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. Through this, we aim to develop the children’s ability to critique and evaluate their own and pre-existing products, whilst drawing on their understanding of mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art.
It is our aim that, through the teaching and exploration of DT, children will develop a greater understanding of how design is a valuable part of our daily lives and their ability to do so could have a positive contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation.
