Computing

Computing at Herne Bay Junior School is broken up into three main curriculum disciplines:

Digital Literacy (using computers to create content)	Computer Science (programming)	Computing Technology (how computers and networks work)
These lessons focus on getting the most out of existing software and hardware. Children are taught how to produce documents for a given audience, as well as how to stay safe when using technology.	These lessons allow children to develop their coding skills as they learn to become computer programmers. It also helps them develop resilience and problem solving as they learn to think as coders.	These lessons focus on how computers and computer networks are used and how they enhance people's lives.

These disciplines are taught throughout the each academic year. Although some movement may exist, they're generally taught as follows:

At Herne Bay Junior School, we have an exciting new curriculum with a strong focus on developing core skills and promoting problem solving. Children will learn the basic concepts behind computer programs and will develop their own solutions for given tasks. By working in groups, they will also develop key skills in debugging; a skill that naturally supports our focus on Growth Mindset.

By presenting new opportunities for children to share their work and ideas, including the creation of blogs, websites and videos, we have no doubt your child will love learning about computing with us.
