Young Voices Concert at the 02 Arena

On Monday 4th February we took 42 excited choir members to the 02 Arena in London to the Young Voices concert. For many it was their first experience being inside such an amazing venue and once they were fed and watered it was time to settle down to rehearsals. The children’s energy and enthusiasm was contagious and after a couple of hours of singing their hearts out and dancing too there was some down time and an opportunity for tea! All the adults on the trip agreed that watching the children so engaged alongside nearly 9,000 other choir members was just spine tingling at times. The choice of songs were impressive ranging from Coldplay Viva La Vida, a Moana Mashup, Any Dream Do will Do to The Greatest Showman….something there for everyone.

The children changed into their Young Voices t-shirts, lit their torches and put on glow stick necklaces and watched as thousands of parents, family and friends filled the arena ready for the concert to start. There were many highlights which included some of our children signing to ‘Fight Song’ which was sung by Beau Dermott from Britain’s Got Talent (she later replied to a tweet we put on our feed saying how impressed she was). Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet performed, much to the delight of the adults! The children loved the Moana Mashup and a particular favourite was when the parents were invited to get up and dance alongside the children.

It really was a spectacle, a real carnival of colour with the lighting and the voices of so many children coming together was beautiful. The evening came to a close with a medley everyone was looking forward to performing, there was an introduction by Hugh Jackman who said he was sad he was unable to attend the concert in person but led the children  into singing songs from The Greatest Showman. What a way to end a very special day and one we are sure many won’t forget!
