Year 5 Maths Challenge Morning at CCW
On Wednesday 20th June, six children from Year 5 (Rudra, Matthew, Fraya, Keir, Maisie and Samuel) travelled to Whitstable Community College to take part in the school’s first annual Maths Challenge Morning. It was a wonderful morning of competitive mathematics where, through hard work, resilience and team work, our team came third out of the eleven teams competing.
There were five rounds which got progressively harder but the children performed wonderfully and behaved impeccably. It was a close competition throughout; only two points separated the top four teams with third place being decided by a nail-biting ‘clincher’ question – how tall is Mount Everest in centimetres? However, fortunately for us, Keir knew the exact height of Everest in metres so it was merely a simple case of multiplying that by a hundred and the team secured third place – highlighting, the power knowledge can have in changing the outcome of a given situation.
It was an enjoyable morning for all the schools, staff and children involved and we certainly look forward to returning next year to compete.
