World Book Day

Thursday 7th March was World Book Day and as always the staff and children of HBJS were keen to celebrate and recognise some of the wonderful authors, illustrators and characters of children's literature. To mark the occasion both children and adults dressed as a character from one of their favourite books and everyone enjoyed seeing if they were able to identify the characters from their costumes.

Throughout the day pupils participated in a range of book and reading related activities. Year 3 and Year 5 pupils paired up for some shared reading which was a fantastic experience enjoyed by all. It was lovely to see the older children support and encourage the younger pupils with their reading and for all to be involved in reading aloud for a purpose, with no sense of pressure.

At 2pm many classes joined in with the BBC's Live Lesson. Here the children took part in an adventure to save our 'words' from being erased by the 'anti-word league' alongside children's authors Malorie Blackman, Rob Biddulph and Cressida Cowell.
