Library Information

Year 3

How do I borrow a book?

Go to the year 3 library or main library with your diary, choose a book, and then take it to the librarian so it can be scanned out in your name.

How many books can I borrow?

You can borrow two books at a time.
One book should be in your reading range (A.R.), so you can take a quiz.
The second book can be any other book of your choice, and does not have to be in your reading range. You will not take a quiz on this one.

Where can I borrow the books from?

You can borrow books from the year 3 library or main library.
You will usually borrow your A.R. reading book from the year 3 library.
You can borrow your second book (free choice) from either the year 3 library or main library.

How do I return my books?

Take your books back to the year 3 library or main library. Remember to hand the books back to the librarian so they can be scanned back into the library.

How long can I borrow them for?

You can borrow the books for two weeks.

What if I haven’t finished reading it?

You can renew the book, which means you extend the loan for two more weeks. Bring the book back to the year 3 library or main library to do this.

Someone else has borrowed the book I would like, can I have it next?

Yes, ask the librarian and it can be reserved for you to have next.

I have some suggestions for new books or ways the library could be improved.

Great! Write your ideas down on a piece of paper, and post it in the red suggestions box in the main library, or tell the librarian.

What happens if I forget to bring my book back?

The librarian sends a list of overdue books to every teacher once a week. Your teacher will remind you to bring your book back.

What happens if my book is very overdue, or I have lost it?

The librarian will send letters home once a term to remind you to bring your book back. If you have lost or damaged your book there is a charge of £5. This is so the school can replace the book.

Can I come to the library at lunchtimes?

Yes, you are very welcome. Years 3 & 4 can come to the library on Mondays and Thursdays. Remember the library is a place for quiet reading and browsing. You can also borrow and return your books at lunchtime. If you wish to chat loudly to your friends or run around, then choose to play outside instead.

What happens to pupils who do not follow the rules?

If pupils do not follow the rules of the library (be calm, careful, kind and quiet) they will be reminded to do so. If they continue, they will be asked to leave the library and their names will be moved down the behaviour trail.

Year 4

Information is the same as for year 3 above. Most pupils borrow their A.R. book from the year 4 library area, and some will go to the main library. All are welcome to choose their second (non A.R.) book from the main library.

Years 5 & 6

Pupils come to the main library to borrow all of their books. Years 5 & 6 can come to the library at lunchtimes on Tuesdays and Fridays
