Our children in Year 5 set off on a camping adventure to Bushcraft in Hatfield Woods last week. For many it was their first time away from home so there was a mixture of nerves and excitement. Thankfully the sun was shining and after dropping off their belongings the children got the chance to learn new skills like making and lighting fires, under the watchful eye of the Bushcraft team leaders of course!
On Monday the children in Year 6 got the chance to take on the role of a Victorian school child. By the end of the day, the children experienced needlework, botany, created zoetropes, recited their times tables and the Lord’s Prayer and finally they used a quill and ink for handwriting practise.
We are proud to present our new School Representatives for this year. The children will be supporting and representing the school at a number of events throughout the year.
One of their key roles is to guide visitors to the school on a tour where they ably and eloquently share their knowledge and answer questions with confidence. We are sure that they will take on the role with pride.
On Wednesday last week we welcomed our new Year 3 children. They arrived with smiles and eager faces ready for their new start at Herne Bay Junior School.
Mr Thomas was on hand with his video camera and captured the moments where many of them were saying goodbye to their parents and taking their first steps into life at junior school.
The children quickly settled into their classes and enjoyed getting to know their new teachers and the class routines. Mrs Kingman visited the classes after break and was pleased to see that the children were already completing written work in their new books. Freddy in 3BM was the first child to share his work and have his photo taken for Twitter! By Friday, lots of children had been to show Mrs Kingman their work and received Headteacher stickers.
We are looking forward to getting to know the children and families better in the coming weeks.
It was wonderful to be back at Swattenden for the year 6 residential this year. We had an excellent week and enjoyed some lovely weather - plus a little rain! One of the highlights of any week like this is the opportunity to see another side of the children.
