At Herne Bay Junior School, we deliver a high-quality History curriculum that helps pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. All our children experience knowledge-rich lessons that progressively teach key History skills such as asking perceptive questions, critical thinking and weighing evidence. This supports all children to develop perspective and make their own judgements.
At Herne Bay Junior School, we use Curriculum Maestro to deliver an engaging curriculum that provides a full coverage of the national curriculum objectives. Pupils explore different historical periods and discover how people’s lives have shaped not only Britain, but the wider world as well. Through practical, comprehension and inquiry-based lessons, the children develop a chronologically secure knowledge and understanding of British, local and world history. This knowledge is revisited and reviewed regularly to help the children establish clear narratives within and across the periods they study.
We also value enrichment opportunities here at Herne Bay Junior School and throughout the children’s time here, every year group participate in school trips or host expert visitors to broaden the children’s understanding of their topics. These experiences are always memorable and remain a highlight of the school calendar for all of the children and staff involved.
