Computing

In an ever-evolving digital world, understanding technology is more than just a skill—it’s an essential part of being confident, creative, and informed. The ability to think critically, solve problems, and harness the power of technology empowers young minds to innovate, communicate, and shape the future.

At Herne Bay Junior School, our Computing curriculum brings this vision to life for all students. We follow the Teach Computing Curriculum, expertly designed to ensure seamless progression across the key stage. This carefully structured program builds on students’ knowledge year by year, providing a foundation in computational thinking, coding, and digital literacy.

Each lesson begins with a thought-provoking real-world scenario or ‘top tip’ to help students consider the ethical and practical challenges of today’s digital landscape. This approach nurtures critical thinking and promotes discussion around internet safety, helping children become responsible, respectful, and resilient digital citizens. From understanding online privacy and cyberbullying to making safe choices on social media, we ensure that internet safety is an integral part of every lesson.

In addition to fostering digital responsibility, we enhance learning with cutting-edge opportunities in 3D printing and virtual reality (VR), giving students the tools to design, create, and immerse themselves in interactive environments. These experiences spark curiosity and bring technology to life in ways that engage all learners, ensuring that every child can explore and thrive.

By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils will have the skills to confidently navigate and contribute to the digital world, laying the foundation for them to innovate and lead in the future. Together, we are building a generation of thinkers, creators, and responsible digital citizens, ready to make their mark on the world.
