OUR CHILDREN HELP PUT THE SPARKLE BACK INTO CHRISTMAS
Our children have been using their artistic skills to put the sparkle back into Christmas and help light up our town for the festive season. Herne Bay Junior School became aware that there was a fundraising initiative to raise money for the Christmas lights and immediately wanted to find a way to support it. Mrs Kingman said “we don’t want our children to miss the magic and wonder of Christmas that the town lights provide. Christmas is about children and families giving and receiving and who better to raise this profile than the children themselves?”
Therefore our school decided to auction one of our canvasses that some children created a couple of years ago in conjunction with Herne Bay High so that our town and our children can enjoy the splendour of Christmas lights this year. After all, what is Christmas without lights?
Members of the public were able to bid for the piece of artwork, called Stormy Waters, by phoning the school office. Bids had to be in by midday on Wednesday 11th October. We also thought it would be nice for the children to do something too so we held a non-uniform day where all the children and staff donated £1.We were thrilled when the final figures tallied and we were informed that the school raised £200 for the canvas and £531from the non-uniform day. Today, we were delighted to present a cheque to the Herne Bay Christmas Lights Appeal for £731.
We would like to thank Mr & Mrs Wing who own The King Ethelbert Inn in Reculver and are parents to Samual who attends our school and secured the highest bid for the canvas. What a wonderful way for our children to make a difference in their community and learn the valuable lesson that sometimes you have to give in order to receive.
