Schools’ Parliament Event
On Friday 17th March Herne Bay Junior School hosted the annual Schools’ Parliament event. Nine local schools brought their School Council members along for a morning of debates around behaviour in school. Roger Gough, Cabinet member for Education and Health Reform took time out of his busy schedule to act as Chair and he seemed to enjoy it as much as the children!
There were six topics up for debate – attendance, uniform, behaviour for learning, lunchtime, play time and homework. The children whose ages ranged from 6 – 11yrs were full of opinions and ideas relating to all these topics and some great suggestions were put forward for all the schools to take away and discuss in their own setting.
All in all a hugely successful morning bringing children together to learn the art of debating.
